Sidelights of APEC High-level Regulators Industry Dialogue on Food Safety

Alfred V. Almanza, Administrator of the Food Safety and Inspection Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, has pointed out that the transparency of information and data is very important during food safety supervision and administration. He also stated that information exchange should be strengthened through broadcasting and the Internet in order to help us identify food safety problems.
Pamela Bailey, President and CEO of the Grocery Manufacturers Association, holds that to strengthen capability of industry associations is very important for ensuring food safety. Ms. Bailey has explained that in the U.S., industries will publish reports and comments on some of the regulations concerning food safety supervision and that this system can help promote the regulations to be more practical so as to benefit the development of the overall industry.
