Development and Strengthening of Food Recall System for APEC Member Economies

This project focused on enhancing capabilities of key government officials among APEC member economies and private sector representatives within the APEC region in developing recall protocols for different food industry sectors, as well as streamlining their current recall system in line with the experiences of economies with stable and effective recall systems. Principal activities were identification of current situation by sharing experiences, identification of roles of different sectors in each economy during recall including legal basis, lectures on properly conducting a product recall, series of workshop on the development of recall protocols, writing a recall plan, development of procedures to action the recall plan among others. The goal of the workshop was to better prepare APEC member economies in dealing with outbreaks and implement effective food recalls.
