Third FSCF Meeting

The APEC FSCF formally met for the third time since 2007. FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg led the U.S. delegation. In addition to endorsing the work of the PTIN, two important deliverables to advance regulatory cooperation came out of the meeting. The first was agreement to launch a pilot project to advance harmonization of pesticide MRLs using a menu of options to account for differing national requirements. The Forum also supported the U.S. proposal for additional work on export certificates, including a USDA-funded workshop later this year in Washington where APEC members may agree on criteria for when export certificates should be used which could be submitted to the Codex Committee on Food Import and Export Inspection and Certification Systems.
